Anita Chitaya has a unique gift, to help bring abundant food from dead soil. To save her home from extreme weather, she must persuade Americans that climate change is real.
ABOUT THE DIRECTORS
RAJ PATEL is an award-winning author, film-maker and academic. He is a Research Professor in the Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin.
He has degrees from the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics and Cornell University, has worked for the World Bank and WTO, and protested against them around the world. Raj co-taught the 2014 Edible Education class at UC Berkeley with Michael Pollan. In 2016 he was recognized with a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award. He has testified about the causes of the global food crisis to the US, UK and EU governments and is a member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems.
ZAK PIPER is an Emmy-winning and Producers Guild Award-winning Documentary Producer with more than 15 years of non-fiction filmmaking experience. Zak produced the critically acclaimed feature film Life Itself, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for over a dozen awards, and won a Critics Choice Award, among others.
Zak also co-produced the critically acclaimed film The Interrupters, which also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to screen at film festivals worldwide, collecting numerous festival awards and distinctions along the way. The New Yorker, Chicago Tribune, Entertainment Weekly, and LA Times all hailed The Interrupters as one of the year’s best films.
Zak is currently producing or directing a number of documentary projects in various stages of development and production.
